Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds has scored big with his purchase of a small Welsh football team

Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds has scored big with his purchase of a small Welsh football team. Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney recently became the new owners of Wrexham AFC, a Welsh football club that plays in the fifth tier of English football. The Football Association of Wales approved the purchase and is the first time the team has been owned by someone other than its supporters.

Reynolds and McElhenney had promised to "put resources behind the club" and "ensure that Wrexham can compete to win", and it seems they are keeping their word. The team has now been promoted to the English Football League for the first time in its history after finishing second in the National League.

Reynolds and McElhenney have become co-chairmen of the club and have even teased the possibility of a documentary series about their ownership journey. In a statement, the new owners said, "Together with the players, the staff, the fans, and the local community, we can now pursue our goal to grow the team and return it to the EFL in front of increased attendance, and in an improved stadium, while making a positive difference to the wider community in Wrexham."

The purchase has been a source of excitement for the small town in Wales, with the team's social media following increasing rapidly after the announcement of Reynolds and McElhenney's ownership. It remains to be seen what other plans the new owners have in store for the team, but for now, the future looks bright for Wrexham AFC.
